KrisFlyer miles generally follow a fixed-expiry policy where they remain valid for 36 months (3 years) from the month they were earned. Unlike many other loyalty programs, this expiry is not extended by account activity; even if you earn or redeem miles regularly, the old miles still expire on their original schedule.
My parents-in-law had some miles on Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer from their earlier travel to the USA. These miles were now close to expiry. They had no plans to use them, so that gave me an opportunity to look at what I could do with them before they expired.
There were enough miles for two one-way tickets or one round-trip ticket to some places in Southeast Asia. Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer does not charge fuel surcharges on award tickets for its own flights. We had not seen Bali yet, so that’s where we decided to go.
We used the miles for two one-way tickets for us on Singapore Airlines from Mumbai to Singapore, and onwards to Denpasar.

For the return, I booked us flights on VietJet with a few days in Ho Chi Minh City ๐.
With that, we were all set for our trip to Indonesia ๐, thanks to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and, of course, my parents-in-law.
